Scully Square V

Ceramic Platter

Created by Catherine Satterlee
Combining a love of working with colored slips and the work of Sean Scully, the artist produced a series of square plates inspired by Scully paintings seen at the Hirshhorn Museum a few years ago. She took the square within a square motif even further by literally superimposing a smaller thin square slab on top of the larger one and fusing them with glaze in the final firing. The underside is unglazed, and there is a hole in the carved foot for a wire loop for hanging. The plate is decorative and not meant for food. Hand wash.
