Zen Garden III Platter
Created by Catherine Satterlee
Delighted by the beautiful dry landscape gardens of Japan, the artist began a series of hand-built stoneware plates called "Zen Gardens" on returning to the US. Thinly rolled oval clay shapes, the "rocks," are pressed on the wet clay surface, then the surface is raked with a scoring tool. The plate is glazed, but because of the texture it is not suitable for food. It may be hung on the wall, displayed on a plate stand, or used as a centerpiece or catch-all on the credenza.
