Hazel and Gertrude

Ceramic Sculpture

Created by Byron Williamson
Wait! Was that a pink elephant driving a car? Yep! That's Hazel taking her new baby out for a ride. Hazel wants to show Gertrude all the sights. The artist makes each of his whimsical sculptures using traditional ceramic hand-building methods: slab, coil, and pinching. After the main slab form is completed, additional sculptural pieces are attached. After the piece is fired to cone 5, a cold finish is applied using metallic paints.
