Tri-color Earthenware Series, Red Calm
Created by Jeri Hollister
Part of a series of small horse studies, this sculpture is constructed from slabs of earthenware clay assembled in the wet stage. The piece is finished with black copper oxide, crimson stain glaze, and white slip. It is then fired to cone 04 in an oxidation atmosphere. The goal of the series is to create volume and gesture using form and negative space. The iron in the earthenware clay body becomes a fourth color in the sculpture.
