Tricolor Reduction Series, White Mane
Created by Jeri Hollister
Part of a series of small horse studies, this sculpture is constructed from slabs of stoneware clay assembled in the wet stage. The piece is finished with black and turquoise glaze and white slip, and is then fired to cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere. The goal of the series is to create volume and gesture using form and negative space. The bare clay becomes a toasty brown in the reduction atmosphere, adding a fourth color to the sculpture.
