Unfurling Platform with Gold Interior
Created by Jean Elton
The original model for this sculpture was derived from found shapes and fashioned by the artist into a work characterized by flag-like unfurling. The result is a visually light, energetic form whose surfaces seem to undulate between a pristine off-white cloud-reflection and a gold sheen reflecting the riches of the earth. The sculpture is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F after which the surface treatment is hand-applied, a glossy gold metallic on the inside while leaving the outside unglazed and natural. Fired again to 2100 degrees F, the work takes its final, elegant form. The work is supplied with a museum gel-disk to stabilize it without damaging the surface on which it is placed. As with all Jean Elton work, the unique serial number on the bottom is recorded on an attractive certificate of authenticity also supplied.
