Horsehair Accent Lamp with Copper Shade

Ceramic Table Lamp

(ID: A90267)
Created by David Gordon
This lamp base is handthrown from porcelain clay and fired in a raku-type process. The carbon trails from horsetail hair, sugar, and feathers applied at 1050 degrees make unique, random patterns. The piece is then sprayed with an iron solution to produce a distinctive "rust red" color that complements a wide range of decor. Each piece is unique. Variations in coloration and patterning are to be expected. Dimensions of the lamp base (without hardware) are approx. 9" H x 7" W. The brass-plated hardware includes a 3-way switch and 7" harp.

The shade for this lamp is handmade from pure copper. The iridescent patterns are produced by oxidizing the copper directly--no paint is used. After piercing an ivy pattern around the bottom of the shade, it is lacquered to keep its appearance through many years of use. The shade dimensions are approx. 12"W X 7" H.

The lamp overall is approx. 17" high. Like any other work of art it should be kept out of direct sunlight and cleaned with gentle brushing.
