Woodlands Lamp in Amber

Ceramic Table Lamp

Created by Suzanne Crane
Suzanne Crane throws the lamp base in stoneware, then presses a real botanical specimen into the wet clay to get a fossil-like impression of the leaves, veins and stems that she later uses as a template for glazing. The piece is glazed in a translucent amber celadon with red clay "berry" accents and black trim. An intricate hand-pressed church-key pattern at the rim and base is brushed in a red iron-oxide wash. The mica is made by Sue Johnson, who has been collaborating with Crane. This shade features a dark amber mica, dried maidenhair ferns and coordinating red and beige piping.
