Red Oak Vine-Handled Teapot
Created by Suzanne Crane
Wheel-thrown stoneware teapot with a hand-pulled stoneware twisted vine handle meant to mimic wrought iron. Impressed with real red oak leaves and accented with red clay "berries'', the teapot is topped with a small sculpted acorn on the lid. An intricate pattern of points, pressed into the leather-hard clay with a churchkey, is treated with a red iron oxide wash, while the body of the teapot is glazed in a luminous copper green celadon and trimmed in temmoku black. The teapot is functional if the handle is grasped carefully near the base, rather than at the more delicate top. Not for use on a stove top.
