2 Seahorse Vase with Swirl Stopper
Created by Lisa Scroggins
This ocean-inspired piece is part wheel-thrown, part hand-built, low-fire white earthenware. Once the main body of the piece has been formed on the wheel, ball feet are added to the bottom with little spheres added around the base of the neck. Two seahorses are shaped, carved with great detail towards realism whilst retaining some whimsy and are posed either side of the neck. The stopper is pulled, twisted and carved. Once fired, 5 or 6 layers of color are brushed on with a gloss, clear glaze inside and out. The stopper is intended to complete the piece when on display but taken out for the occasional floral arrangement.
