Blue Swirl Dragonfly Vase on Red balls
Created by Lisa Scroggins
This vase begins as a wheel thrown vessel from warm white low-fire clay onto which 4 ball feet are added to the bottom. A delicate dragonfly is sculpted with incised wing detail and posed as if it has just landed on the vessel. Once bisque fired multiple layers of rich ultramarine blue underglaze with turquoise spirals are brushed on the vase. Intricate multi colored details are painted on the dragonfly's body and a light yellow is brushed on the wings. Layers of bright red underglaze are painted on the 4 ball feet. The piece is signed on the bottom and a clear gloss glaze covers the vase inside and out.
