Octopus Greek Amphora
Created by Shayne Greco
This vase is designed after the classic amphora vessel which does not have a flat bottom but rather comes to a point and was designed to carry wine or other distilled spirits. The amphora can only be put down when it is completely empty. The artist imagined the vase (home to an octopus) on an ocean floor being discovered at an ancient shipwreck. The Caribbean blue glaze is his special recipe. It took many months of experimenting to acquire the the bright blue with transparent green. It requires a third firing and a total of seven coats of lead-free glaze.
