Vermillion and Crackle
Created by Paul Schneider
This piece was wheel thrown using balcones white clay from South Texas. The vermillion is applied with a brush and the crackle effect results from a clay resist. The glaze firing utilized the raku method, which sees the kiln temperature rise to 1840 degrees Fahrenheit in less than an hour. Due to the quick and low temperature firing the piece retains some porosity.
