Gees Bend Cachepot
Created by Catherine Satterlee
This large vessel was inspired by a Gee's Bend quilt in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Surprisingly light-weight, it was hand built by carefully stacking strips of clay and pressing only the interior seams so that the linear texture was maintained on the exterior. A thin green glaze covers the outside, and a rich, dark blood-red glaze was painted on the inside. A delightful objet d'art, this vessel can be used as a cachepot, a centerpiece for the buffet, or as a striking tabletop sculpture.
