Lidded Vessel I
Ceramic Vessel
Created by
Jeff Margolin
This extraordinary ceramic vessel is a dazzling exploration of form and surface decoration. The artist begins by throwing porcelain-type clay on the wheel. He then carves intricate designs into the surface, first drawing each design with a needle, carving it out with blades, and cleaning with water and brush. When completely dry, the piece is sanded and burnished to a high sheen, then fired and smoked in a kiln. A semi-transparent pigment is applied to the carving for definition.
Each is unique and will vary.
