Daniel Bennett

"My artwork is created from wheel-thrown stoneware clay that is embellished with texture and altered in order to engage one's view with ever-changing nature."

Daniel Bennett's inspiration comes from the Midwestern landscape that he grew up in and continues to love today. The abundance of trees and rolling creeks in his surroundings inspires him to accentuate the contrast between rough textures and smooth curved surfaces in his artwork. He strives to give his pieces an earthy yet elegant appeal. He hopes to enrich people's lives through art.

Daniel Bennett creates his artwork primarily by using the potter's wheel and slab roller, then by embellishing and altering it with texture. He fires his work in a hand-built propane downdraft kiln. Next, he waxes, stains, and applies glazes. The oxidation and reduction atmospheres of the second kiln firing react with his handmade glazes in appealing ways, giving each piece a distinctive finished appearance.

Daniel Bennett received a BFA with an emphasis in ceramics from Missouri Western State University in 1995. During his college years, he taught night classes in ceramics under the direction of Professor Jim Estes. Bennett has been participating in juried art shows for the last 16 years as his full-time employment.
