Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Created by Phyllis Pacin
Raku fired hand-textured tile wall sculpture. "Ag City" is made of parallelogram-shaped tiles that Pacin rolled by hand. Before she cut large slabs of clay into individual tiles, she textured the slabs with many different objects including a meat tenderizer, chrome trim from a car (Kammback) and a printed circuit board. Like snowflakes, no two tiles are alike. The raku firing process creates iridescent luster glazes and velvety blacks to highlight the colorful glazes. This three part piece is one of a series of abstract depictions of land and water masses as seen from the sky. The colors vary from those of the land to red, purple and bright luster greens.
