Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Created by Phyllis Pacin
Raku fired hand-textured tile wall sculpture. "Iraq" is made of parallelogram-shaped tiles that Pacin rolled by hand. Before she cut large slabs of clay into individual tiles, she textured the slabs with many different objects including a meat tenderizer, chrome trim from a car (Kammback) and a printed circuit board. Like snowflakes, no two tiles are alike. The raku firing process creates iridescent luster glazes and velvety blacks to highlight the colorful glazes.
