Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Created by Gail McCarthy
This work is a luminous offering of brilliant luster colors counterpointed with rich elements of matte engobes created in discrete mosaic segments. The techniques used date from the 13th Century when gold lusters were valued by Persian Caliphs as equal to gold itself. To achieve its depth and resonance, this work has been put through a complex series of glazing and reduction firings, it is composed on a single 18 x 18 ceramic tile and backed with rigid board. It has a simple interlocking bracket system for easy hanging on any wall. This work is impervious to sunlight.
