Japanese Maple Tile Mural in Poppy Red
Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Framed tile mural using 9 handmade 6" square stoneware tiles impressed with the leaves and branches of a Japanese Maple tree. Once the impression is made in the wet clay, the leaves are removed, leaving a fossil-like template for the artist to follow in the glazing process. Around the outer edge of the tiles, the artist has carefully pressed, one at a time, a church-key pattern, treated with a red iron oxide wash. At the corners of the mural are two black squares, giving the whole piece a Mission feel, furthered by the quartersawn oak frame in an oil finish. Suitable for hanging indoors, or in a protected outdoor (covered porch) setting. Oil the wood occasionally to keep it from drying out. Another mural of the same size with the Japanese Maple branch coming down from the opposite top side is available as a matching piece.
