Purple Diamond Wave Tile Composition
Ceramic Wall Sculpture
Created by Sara Baker
Here is a stoneware clay four tile composition made by throwing each tile individually on the wheel, then carving out the rough design. The artist then adds clay to the raised part of the design to give the pattern significant depth, about three inches in the deepest places. Once the tiles have dried and been thru the first firing, the glazing begins. Baker sprays multiple glazes from one direction to enhance the design by first creating beautiful colors and then to enhance contrast between the smooth, bright, and colorful side of the carving and the raw clay on the other side. The layering of the glazes also gives the colors depth, variation and texture within the colors. Then the piece is fired again to about 2300 degrees. This piece must be hung as a diamond using a French cleat on each tile and it comes with all the necessary parts and instructions.
