The painting medium is encaustic on cradled wood panel. The process involves multiple layers of melted hot beeswax combined with tree resin painted on and fused with a blowtorch to the layer beneath. This painting will endure over time if it is hung away from prolonged periods of direct hot sun. The title of this painting comes from the artists vivid memories of night skiing at Alpental ski area in the Snoqualmie Pass mountains during her high school years. It was her first taste of freedom.
