Wen Redmond

"I create, and the piece responds. A dialogue continues until the piece is finished. Each work becomes an obsession; time is condensed and becomes almost irrelevant. I don't keep hours, I "work" all the time. To say how long any one piece takes is very difficult. The simple mechanics of a piece can take several months, but the conception of the idea is very hard to capture. It is the germ, the heart of the process. It's why I create. "

New England artist Wen Redmond explores fiber focusing on experimentation and expanding its presentation. When digital processes and the computer became readily available, she was able to join her fiber work with her love of photography. This created a unique personal artistic expression merging digital processes, fabric painting, photography, collage, mixed media, and surface design. After an image is composed, it is printed directly onto inkjet-ready substrates or specially treated fabrics. Wen refers to her work as digital fiber.

Wen continues to investigate the digital world as well as imaginative presentations that add to the pioneering exploration of her media and gives her work an edge. Her latest work continues experimenting with digital photography and manipulation and printing images on mixed-medium substrates. Each work is unique and created individually. She delights in creating dialogue and changing perspectives and perceptions of fiber.

She has been published widely in books and magazines, featured on Quilting Arts Television, and has two DVD workshops with Interweave Publishing. Wen is the author of the book, Digital Fiber Art: Combine Photos & Fabric—Create Your Own Mixed-Media Masterpiece. Her work has been included in many juried exhibits and collections.
