New Beginnings

Fiber Wall Hanging

Created by Cindy Grisdela
New Beginnings has a large improvisationally designed block set asymmetrically in a rectangular space. This piece hangs horizontally and would be at home in many spaces, such as over a love seat or buffet.

The color recipe is based on a variety of green hues to set off the bright yellows, blues, and golds in the central block. The negative space in the green background is broken up with inserted segments in slightly different colors to add interest to the piece. It took the artist some time trying different ideas to find the right background color to complement this design, inspiring the name.

Design pieced from cotton hand-dyed fabric. Freehand quilted on a home sewing machine using a variety of motifs. Variegated thread used in quilting. The stitching is a medley of different motifs that adds depth and texture to the piece, including waves, fans, pebbles, and spirals.

Hanging sleeve and rod included. Easily hangs from two small nails in the wall. Avoid direct sunlight. Use a lint roller for light cleaning.
