Desert Horizon Studs

Gold & Silver Earrings

(ID: A60264)
Created by Katie Carder
These small desert horizon studs were inspired by the flora of the New Mexico desert. Hand-fabricated from sterling silver and gilded with 24 karat gold keum boo technique. The silver has been oxidized to add a wonderful contrast with the gold.

Keum Boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of 24 karat gold to silver, to make silver-gilt. The 24 karat gold foil is applied to the raised fine silver with heat and burnishing to produce a permanent diffusion bond.

    Comments about Desert Horizon Studs:

These earrings were a holiday treat for myself, and I am so glad that I did not hesitate to make this purchase. I admire the bold and abstract interpretation of a botanical form. The size of the earrings is just right - big enough to whisper "look at me", but small enough to play nice with other accessories.
