Graphite OT box
Created by Dewey Garrett
Ornamental Turning -- A box made of graphite and turned on a wood lathe. After turning the top and bottom, the pieces are decorated on a home-built ornamental turning engine. The top features a unique fractal pattern generated from simple mathematical equations that generate patterns closely related to features in nature. The bottom inside is engraved with a TV test pattern from the 1950's and the top inside is engraved with a quotation from W. Atkins that describes the curious nature of fractals. It begins: "I wonder whether fractal images are not touching the very structure of our brains ..."
