Love in a Time of Chaos
Metal Wall Clock
Created by Mary Ann Owen and Malcolm Owen
A truly spectacular wall clock that will be the magnificent focus of your room. There are six working clocks that can be set to different time zones or all the same time. A variety of metalworking techniques were used to make this clock including fabrication, hand hammering, forging, and casting. All pieces were soldered together with the greatest care. The largest clock has a 9" face and is a 24 hour movement. The smallest clock is 4" and runs on a standard incremental movement. Others are an 8" face which has a smooth, continuous sweep movement, a 6" face has a remote second hand, the center face is 5" and runs a reverse movement, and a 7" face has a pendulum movement. This clock is not silent but has a pleasing ticking sound from some of the movements. Sixty eight cast sterling silver figures are found in the composition of the piece including six couples looking for peace in their chaotic world. There is tremendous detail including some found objects and many assorted gemstones including malachite, pearls, onyx, jasper, turquoise, amber, sodalite, coral, and agate. The piece has been oxidized with a sulfurated potash solution, then waxed to produce a permanent, durable finish. All movements run on AA batteries (included) and need to be changed once a year.
