Wallpiece 10.13

Metal Wall Sculpture

David and Reed Bowman's low relief wall pieces are bold yet minimalist one-of-a-kind abstract compositions in a range of traditional and modern sculptural patinas. The parts are hollow, fabricated from brass sheet (with a few copper elements), patinaed with brush, torch, and various chemical solutions, then assembled. In this case, the design incorporates what we call a 'collision': we use hammers, pliers, and chisels to tear through the central panel while it is heated orange-hot, to reveal another composition of smaller parts, as if another sculpture has collided with this and is pushing its way through.

Like most of the artists' pieces, this wall piece can be hung at any angle to different effect. These wall pieces have great visual mass, but, being hollow, they are actually quite light in weight.
