B. St. Marie Nelson

"The inspiration for my painting comes from books. I believe they can possess qualities beyond their text. A beautifully bound book, even if worn and old, can become an artistic object by itself. I hope that the viewer will find a sense of calm and beauty illustrated in these quiet moments of everyday life."

Nelson finds inspiration in favorite books, libraries and writer's spaces. Her work is a very personal perspective of the ordinary book, reflecting her ideas and interests. She believes that viewing art like reading, allows us a greater understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Each piece is created on a cradled wood panel. Her process begins with an underpainting. The oil paint is then applied in thin layers till desired color is achieved. The sides of the panel are painted to match. Each painting is finished with archival varnish.

Nelson has a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art. She has exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and has paintings in both private and public collections.
