Color Fields

Oil Pastel Painting

Created by Tom Maakestad
This piece is made with oil pastel on heavy cotton rag paper. It is framed with museum conservation techniques. Art work is spaced away from glass with an antique white mat and clear maple frame suitable for museum presentation.

"Color Fields" is from a hilly region of western Wisconsin where watersheds run towards the Mississippi River creating appealing hills and benches with farms tucked away amongst woods and rivers. This area is mixed with hardwood and coniferous forests intermixed with agricultural activity. This mixture offers interesting combinations of color and shape giving inspiration for these pieces.

Late fall was the inspiration for this piece when intense coloration offsets fields of corn against a backdrop of bare trees and maples and oaks turning orange, red, and brown as well as deep green pines. .
