Atitlan Shawl in Black and White
The title Atitlan comes from the striped pants worn by men and boys in Atitlan, Guatemala. Often, there will be embroidered designs on top of the stripes. This shawl is handwoven and hand dyed in pure silk. The white yarns are actually shades of white with some ecru, champagne, pale blues and a little pink. The pattern reverses on the wrong side- horizontal becomes vertical and visa versa. If closely observed, a slight shift can be seen also in the superimposed patterns.
