Coastal Finds Necklace

Silver & Stone Necklace

Created by April Ottey
With this necklace, the artists has collected some of her very favorite discoveries from her Pacific coast trip last fall. All three pieces of the pendant—the beach stone, the manzanita leaf, and the western larch sprig—are native to the Pacific Northwest. Each of these charms is beautiful on its own, but together they showcase the beauty at every level of the region—from the sea, to the land, to the sky.

The stones were collected from beaches along the Pacific Ocean. With her feet in the surf, she wandered the beach, gathering rocks. The manzanita is a short tree, easily admired at eye level, and she fell in love with its round, veiny leaves while hiking. To represent the sky, she chose a sprig of western larch, a tall conifer that grows up to 200 feet high and is happiest growing on mountains. She cast the leaf and the sprig in sterling silver and oxidized them to reveal the intricacy of their textures. The three pieces hang from a textured oxidized silver ring and 30" chain with lobster clasp. The beach stone will vary in each piece.
