This is an original watercolor which is inspired by the traditional Dresden Plate quilt pattern made with complementary patterns and embroidery stitches across the surface. This is a part of a larger series of paintings called 'Everyday Use' inspired by the quilters and lace-makers that celebrates their artistry. The folds are intended to recognize that these were artworks made to wrap around loved ones, and recognize that each stitch is a blessing. The title comes from the admiration of American quilters of the 1920's and 30's for the beautiful porcelain plated created in Dresden, Germany that were embellished with elaborate design using flowers, fruits and foliage.
