Shannon Bueker

Not Now, Kato Fine Art Studio

"This life we have is a gift. It is a wonder to me that it comes in so many shapes, sizes, and forms. "

Shannon Bueker's drawings and paintings have long been motivated by the need to respond to the beauty she sees around her. The amazing grace of trees and plants, the fluidity of animals, and the outrageous colors of the earth all provoke her to paint and draw. She sees her work as trying to reveal nature's grace and unfold the layers of interconnections and the surprising overlaps.

The process of Bueker's painting is layering color and line, describing movement, and developing a rich, varied surface. The longer she paints, the more she finds that the paint itself and her marks and gestures become key players in the composition. She wants these elements to draw the eye the way figures in a landscape would.

Shannon Bueker has drawn and created art her whole life, and she has been especially fascinated by animals. She received a BFA in 1987 from University of Texas at Austin.
