Migration Series No.23
Created by Ted Lott
This wall hung work, which is both a sculpture and a functional cabinet, is built from an old steamer trunk. The lid, pierced to create windows, which are framed with salvaged old growth redwood, and the window frames are built of solid brass. The body of the trunk is assembled from solid oak, joined by mortise and tenon joinery, with the shelves built of solid Walnut. The back is repurposed antique beadboard, with candlabra lights illuminating each of the three interior sections. A cloth wrapped cord powers the lights, and a toggle switch allows the lights to be turned on and off with ease.
