Pear Opus One
Wood Coffee Table
The Pear Opus One Coffee Table is the most successful work from the artist's Fruit Series. The exceedingly rare, curly cherry wood top makes the Pear Opus One exceptional. The balance of the coffee table is cherry, a very dignified and classic wood that gets richer with age. The stem is sculpted from American black walnut and secured with rare earth magnets. It's easily removed for safe keeping when needed. The construction technique is hollow-core stack lamination where the coffee table walls are approximately three inches thick. The inside is hollow, reducing weight and providing structural integrity for the ages. The table weighs a very fit one hundred twenty-five pounds or so. The sculpting process starts with chainsaws and automobile disc grinders. As rough edges soften, the tools become lighter in touch, with the final form delineated with files, scrapers, and days of sanding. Applying the Danish oil finish brings a glow and sensuousness to the work. The finish is easily maintained and becomes richer with the patina of life. Two applications of Danish oil are recommended per year. A quart of Danish oil is included along with maintenance instructions. The Pear Opus One Coffee Table is a drop-dead-gorgeous work and looks stunning in any room in the house or office. It will light up the day and bring a smile with every touch.
