Created by Sylvie Rosenthal
This sculpture is from the artist's Animals and Architecture series, in which animals seamlessly blend with architectural spaces. The sculpture is hand-carved and constructed primarily using poplar, mahogany, and steel. The bird in this work is kinetic. When the crank is turned, the bird nods its head and flaps its wings. Rosenthal is known for her intricate and detail-oriented furniture and sculpture, contraptions, and art objects, that are infused with humor and steeped in the impossible.
