Mountain Santa Fe, 2008
One of a Kind
"Mountain near Santa Fe" is from a recent series derived from selected views of mountains and woods. This particular mountain is on the Turquoise Trail between Albuquerque and Santa Fe New Mexico. Edmonds created this sculpture to provide viewers with a sense of the wholeness of nature while living indoors. Edmonds first envisioned making a sculpture that could be thought of as a small garden inside a house while studying wood joinery in Japan. The profusion of gardens to be walked through and the many environments of stone and gravel meant to be viewed while stationary were overwhelming and he has sought to recall and utilize some of this energy in this body of work. Color and a linear type of organization drawn onto the form with trees and other vegetation where applicable, gives the illusion of the movement of light and the ongoing eccentricity of nature. The paintings of this work strive to recall a particular light and color scheme consistent with the original landscape inspiration.
