Sculptural form of Buckeye Burl and African Blackwood
Created by Eric Reeves
This sculptural form consists of a hollow form base of superb Buckeye Burl, a fixed African Blackwood lid, and a finial of both Buckeye Burl and African Blackwood. There are few woods so wonderfully complementary as Buckeye Burl and African Blackwood. Buckeye Burl takes on its spectacular figure and subtle, swirling inky colors when it is brought from underground into the air and oxidizes. It is a root burl and grows on the root of the Buckeye tree, also known as Horse Chestnut. Buckeye figure is as complex and rich as anything in the world of wood, and this is truly a superb example of how special the wood can be.
