Hollow Form Turned From Figure Padauk

Wood Vessel

Created by Eric Reeves
Padauk is an African wood more often known for its dramatic orange color than any other feature. The hollow form turned here, however, is truly spectacularly figured, which gives even more drama to the characteristic orange color. The bands of color highlight one another to make for a highly unusual and quite beautiful surface. That surface, after sealing, has been treated with Danish oil, then hand rubbed with a mixture of carnauba and beeswax.

This small but elegantly turned hollow form was made using only the smallest of entry points for turning tools. Nonetheless, the walls are quite thin, and the turning is light to the touch. For decorative use only.
