Wooden Wall Sculpture
One of a Kind
The sculpture is painted wood. The two vertical pieces are made from a standing dead aspen tree, whose surface has been scoured by wind, snow and sun, removing all the bark. The log is cut in half. It is partly painted. The lower part of both halves has been carved make the pointed ends. The inside between the two halves has a gradation beginning at the bottom in solid black, fading to nothing in the upper half to reveal the natural wood. The three panels behind the aspen are made of birch plywood, painted directly into the wood and each separated by three eights inch of space. There are two glyphs painted in white on the topmost panel. The aspen and the panels are protected by acrylic varnish. Signed on bottom.
The artist uses a variety of found objects in his sculptures: wind-polished aspen, milled-wood fragments, metal fragments, mining debris, high-altitude plane-crash fragments, stove parts, recycled crate wood, and more. Due to the unique nature of this piece, exact coloration and patterning will vary from piece to piece.
