Once removed from the kiln, the rattles are \u003cspan class=\"glossaryLink\" data-glossary-word=\"raku\"\u003eraku\u003c\/span\u003e fired, which drives the fired materials into the crackled clay. Once cool, artist Valerie Seaberg chips off the crusted clay, and washed and seals the piece with a light wax. Due to the nature of raku firing, the pattern of each will vary.
