Joan Skogsberg Sanders
Joan Sanders' Moroccan series recalls memories of past trips. She was - and clearly still is - intrigued by the rich, ancient past that is evident at every turn.
Her images are based on enigmatic reminiscences and evoke the strong religious thread that binds Morocco together. She also incorporates the country's traditions of mysticism - magic, spirits, "the evil eye." The paintings derive emotional content not only from Sanders' vivid recollections but also through the reworking and combining of juxtaposed images.
