Rone' Prinz

Rone Prinz

"It is exciting to see what wants to escape from my hands and form itself into something that is actually wearable. I love the whole process of creating. Then for the viewer to be delighted--that's an added bonus!"

Rone' Prinz is a metalsmith artist from California, and for her, making this jewelry is a dance. She feels that the relationship of moving matter and moving the physical form are one and the same. Discovering different materials, from old pocket watch wheels to opals, is an endless, exciting process. Each new collection is influenced by the last one.

The construction of each piece begins by Prinz looking at the materials she has gathered and taking into mind the color, texture, and shape. By using traditional metalsmithing and sculpture techniques such as forming, carving, soldering, and sanding, she allows the alchemy of art to evolve in its own way.

Prinz attended the San Francisco Art Institute in the 70s, majoring in sculpture and printmaking, but decided to travel around the world after two years. Ten years later while in a Japanese papermaking class, she accidentally tore one of her sculptures, which she then made into a pair of earrings. After that, she took a few basic jewelry classes and felt like she had finally found her artistic voice.
