Ruth Buffington and Jim Bremer

"Anything worth doing is worth doing right."

In their artistic pursuits, Ruth Buffington and Jim Bremer aim to create unique works of art that incorporate innovative techniques, unconventional materials, and unsurpassed craftsmanship.

Buffington and Bremer rely on a vast set of skills and techniques to produce their one-of-a-kind work. Ruth Buffington is an accomplished fashion designer and jewelry maker. She is best known for her bead embroidery, which incorporates old watch parts, antique trinkets, and found objects. Her recent works include etched metal and paper clay sculpture. Jim Bremer relies on an array of traditional hand skills complemented by in-depth knowledge of computer-aided design. He is a skilled woodworker and has recently developed a unique process of adding a copper- or brass-clad surface to wood. Both artists are avid antiques hunters and collectors—they are always looking for unique objects to incorporate into their work.

Ruth Buffington attended Linfield College in Oregon and spent a good deal of her young adult life traveling the world, including five years spent living in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is always broadening her skill set and attends workshops regularly. Jim Bremer received a BFA degree from Missouri State University in 1974. Like Ruth, his education was broadened by world travel. Most of his hand skills are self-taught.
