About this Artist

Mike Wallace

"I have always found the color of glass and the way it uses light to be remarkable. There's also something amazing about imagining art and transforming it into a finished piece. Each piece feels like a member of the family."

Mike Wallace studied glass blowing at the Corning Museum of Glass and then at the Toledo Museum of Art where he completed several years of independent study. In 2001 he began to pursue glass art as a full-time career. Currently he works out of his own studio which, as part of a series of "back in time" attractions, also includes blacksmith and carpentry shops.

Not what I expected
The picture in the catalog is of the LARGE bag - it is full (no empty space at the top) and appears to have a stopper of some kind (to keep dust out, I thought). I assumed the SMALL bag would be the same but, well, smaller. I knew the number of marbles was different but I thought the bag would be smaller so the bag would be FULL not half full (or half empty depending on your perspective). I had spoken with you before about choosing marbles and found that not to be possible but I did hope the marbles would be different, that there wolud be no duplicates or marbles so similar that they are essentially duplicates. I guess that leaving the marbles unsecured would increase the chance that they woud break the glass bag or chip each other but it would be nice to be able to look at all sides of the marbles, especially the ones in the middle. I couldn't afford the large one (and I prefer the smaller size anyway) and the piece is nice enough that I wanted to keep it. But I do think that you should mention the differences between the large and the small bags and redo the photo to remover that thing that looks like a stopper (I was told neither bag had a stopper). Expectations are important in determining satisfaction. [...]You have some really nice stuff for sale and I'm glad you offer artists an opportunity to market their pieces.

'Just a delightful little piece for anyone who loves glass work. Bold, clear colors stripe the marbles.

large and small not the same
I am disappointed that you chose not to print my last review on this. I feel it is very important to let customers know that the small paperweight differs quite a lot in appearance from the large one. Either that, or mine was a mistake that the artist let slide through. In any event let me reiterate - the small version is a half empty large bag of marbles - not a full, round, small bag of the same. In order for reviews to mean anything at all, you should print both sides - favorable and unfavorable. I feel the small version should have had its own photographic image - it differed THAT much.

Beautiful !!
The "Bag of Marbles" is beautiful. It sparkles, and twinkles, and catches your eye. It was my favorite Christmas present. (I'm not sure if mine is the "Large" or "Small" -- It is a tall bag with the marbles filling about half the bag.)Whatever, it is a delightful piece.
