This low fire white earthenware vase is first wheel thrown and trimmed. The skink is hand-sculpted with meticulous detail and placed so that it looks like it could actually run off of the piece. This vessel is bisque fired to cone 04-1945f which results in a creamy white surface for me to color. The artist achieves her intense warm yellow by brushing on 5 layers of . The skink is painted in a gradation of vertical stripes in a range from white to yellow, green, turquoise, and ending in a medium blue. This is in contrast to the black and white details on the skink. 3 layers of clear, gloss glaze are then brushed over the underglaze and inside the vase to waterproof. It is then kiln fired one final time to cone 05 this time-1888f for 8 hours, cooled for 24 hours. Each piece is unique. This vase is perfect as a sculptural piece of art or equally at home filled with flowers. Slight variations in composition, dimensions, and colors may occur.
