MoonBees are made of wood, finished in acrylics, but are filled with mystery. It seems they are connected with the 'dark' side of the moon, existing in shadows, reflecting and absorbing light, they reveal truths, both enlightening and disturbing. In the mind's eye they are both microscopic and macroscopic, figments of our imagination and harbinger's of realities yet witnessed, time connected and timeless. Each moonBeE is unique, each face is different, dependent on the subtle textural, sanding differences, which show up with the finished painted surface.

About this Artist

Bruce Chapin

"The more I create, the less I reveal. I find the universe a strange and marvelous place. I am still trying to figure it out. The workings of the known universe make complete sense to me, and simultaneously seem completely absurd. "

In his sculptural work, Bruce Chapin explores the mysteries of the universe, the known and the unknown, meaning and lack of meaning.

Working primarily in wood, Chapin keeps his methods simple, hand carving each piece and finishing it with acrylic, milk paints, or encaustic.

The artist was rejected from kindergarten for failing the "Philosophy of Life" portion of the entrance exam. He has struggled ever since to regain his self-worth and to find direction and meaning in his life. Realizing early on that being an artist would only add to the eternal futility of his meaningless life, he decided that by embracing that futility he might, just might, find meaning.

Friendly MoonBeE
This wooden art is about the cutest thing I have seen in a long time. I received a nice note from the artist which made it even better and it came with a nail to hang it with. I know the description says the MoonBeE has a dark side but I haven't found anything "dark" about it yet. I simply love this MoonBeE and it makes me smile everytime I see it. It is an unusual piece but I think almost anyone with a sense of humor would like it.

My Smiling Little Bee
The Moon Bee has found a happy home. It resides on the wall of our newly renovated guest bath, watching and thinking.It is happy and smiling and is a whimsical, artistic touch that I love!It is a good quality little bee.
