Meiny Vermaas-van der Heide

"Earth Quilts are my silent voice joining the choir of women worldwide, using the universal language of love and the beauty of patchwork to express a heartfelt desire for peace and social and environmental justice, shared globally."

Meiny Vermaas-van der Heide's work reflects her combined American and Dutch heritage. Her techniques are born of traditional American patchwork, while her inspiration comes from Dutch painters Piet Mondriaan and Vincent Van Gogh (and from the colors of tulips and other flowers of Holland).

She works in a well-organized studio—large design wall, custom-made work table, walls stuffed high and tight with fabrics. It maintains an airy feel due to a large north-facing window and plenty of floor space. She views each of the quilts she creates there as a challenge that satisfies her hunger for beauty, color, form, and texture.
