"My experience living in Tanzania for two years - with no electricity or conveniences like a washing machine - encouraged me to reflect on my values and shifted my perspective on what is precious in life. My interest in working with common materials, like acrylic, blossomed, and I realized that what is precious isn't always about the diamonds and pearls."

Through her collections of bold and refined jewelry, Piatti strives to tell a story of traditional jewelry making and dedication to craft. The pieces artfully combine her signature acrylic, with precious metals like 14 &18 kt gold and sterling silver. The organic seaweed shapes are heavily influenced by Piatti's time in Zanzibar, where women harvested seaweed and laid them out in the sand to dry.

With every piece, Piatti preserves traditional silversmithing & jewelry making techniques. She creates subtle three-dimensional shapes in her designs by heat forming acrylic & bending sterling silver into unique forms. This affect is accentuated by oxidizing the silver with different patinas in unexpected ways. Acrylic elements are hand riveted with sterling silver to create silver inlay details.

Born and raised in Slovakia with a passion for working with her hands, Piatti completed 8 years of formal study in jewelry at the SUV Kremnica Art School in Slovakia and the Grays School of Art in Scotland. She lived in Tanzania for 2 years until she moved to Washington, DC. Traveling around the world has exposed Piatti to various cultures, which has influenced her design philosophy and work.
